It’s our last day touring and we travel the 55 miles from Madrid to the old city of Toledo. The city is on a hill, and we arrive at the ancient gate, then start exploring starting with the Jewish district and the Synagogue that was designed to look like a Christian Church. We then wander through the city and visit the Catholic Cathedral of Saint Mary, then the market area.

The cathedral contains impressive art including the Alter “El Transparente” and Monstrance of Arfe which is paraded through the streets annually.

Although the city is ancient it is clean and extraordinarily well preserved. Our guide was excellent and brought the history to life. The streets are narrow punctuated by squares, with neat shops one containing great ice cream and the “Man from La Moncha”. We view El Greco’s famous painting, which was well attended. Tourism was present but not intense, which made our visit a very pleasant last tour in Spain. The next day we make the all -day journey to Charlotte, then Savannah and then home, where we are in bed by 10:00 PM EDT. Another fun, interesting and potentially fattening trip for the three musketeers is in the books.
