The main objective of the day is to explore Rosedown Plantation, which is one of he South’s most intact manor homes, and gardens. The estate encompasses 374 acres that once and once was 3500 acres that sustained cotton, pastureland, stables and orchards that was worked by 250 enslaved Africans who lived on the land. The manor house itself covers 18 acres, with a alley of oaks leading to the manor house, which is surrounded by gardens and paths accented by sculptures and latticed gazebos. The Manor house was built in 1835 by Daniel and Martha Turnbull for a cost of $13,109.00. After the Civil war the plantation was worked by the former slaves that became sharecroppers, which continued until 1960.

When not on an excursion there were plenty of activities on the boat, lectures, entertainment and time to relax. We enjoyed watching some of the interesting traffic on the river or a beautiful sunset while sipping a glass of wine on our veranda.
