The “Poldark Mansion”

This visit was really the geniuses of our trip to England, in that Marilyn is a HUGE fan of the television series Poldark. The fictitious story of a man who returns from the American Revolutionary war to claim his inherited home and land, in Cornwall in Southwest England. The estate where it was filmed, however, is in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. The Chavenage House was built in 1576 and has been owned by the Lowsley-Williams Family since 1891. We were welcomed and treated as family guests for our tour and hosted for a splendid lunch in the estates dining room. The senior brother and sister could not have been more charming and regaled us with stories about the family history, the movies and life in show business. This location has been used in around 20 films including the five seasons of Poldark. Enjoy images from Marilyn’s day with the Poldark family.

We have coffee and then enjoy a tour and running history of the estate with numerous incite into the filming of Poldark.

Marilyn soaks up Poldark scenes and artifacts, along with description of the filming by the family.

An interesting bit of history the Chavenage House was used by the Allies to plan the invasion of Normandy during WWII, we examine some of the artifacts of this period that are on display.

More Poldark film scene locations to visit and explore.

We thoroughly enjoy a very gracious lunch with the “Poldark house” family scions.

The family bids us farewell as we leave Chavenage House and its history, real and fantasy.

We have one last dinner at the Dormy House and then depart the next morning for Heathrow for our flight back to the U.S. It’s been a great trip and so nice to be home after a month of traveling.
