Long Cove Club Member/Guest 2008
Pat lamson, a soroity sister of Joyces from California, visited us for the 2008 ladies member/guest at Long Cove Club. Pat arrived Monday Sept. 29 to start the weeks festivities. Tuesday was the practice round and cocktail party, then Wednesday and Thursday the event was played. Friday Joyce and Pat toured Savannah and we met at the Chechessee cottage. Saturday we played golf at Old Tabby Links and dined at the River House on Spring Island. Sunday we toured Beaufort and Pat departed to Charleston for more exploration of the South. The weather was perfect for Pats visit and it was a great way to start our fall, winter and spring in the low country.

A quick trip to Maine
Monday, September 22nd, we took off from Dayton and flew to Elmira, NY for fuel and then on to Portland, Maine. We rented a car and drove to our first stop Kennebunkport, where we checked into the White Barn Inn. We toured the quaint village of Kennebunkport and drove up the coast to view the Bush compond on Walker Point. That evening we had a fabulous lobster dinner at the five star White Barn Inn and who should be there, George and Barbra Bush. The next day we drove south to the Village of Ogunquit and toured Perkins Cove and the rocky coast. On our return we visted Rachel Carson Park, which gave us an appreciation of Maine woods and marsh beauty. That evening dinner above Kennebunkport where we viewed the sunset and dined on the water. The next morning we made the 30 minute flight to Rockland, Maine and checked into the Inn at Sunrise Point on the coast above Camden. Like the White Barn, the Inn at Sunrise Point turned out to be another gem recomended by Andrew Harper. We toured the area and met our friends the Pools and Newalls who were also visiting the area. We enjoyed a spectacular view of the northern Maine area from Mount Battie and visited Rockland. In Rockland we visited the Farnsworth Art Museum to see the outstanding Wyeth collection. We toured the interesting town of Camden, then another great sea food lunch on the water. What turned out to be our last evening we enjoyed another great lobster dinner at The Edge restaurant near our Inn. We had planned to fly to Bar Harbour on Thursday for a two day stay, however impending bad weather convinced us to return to Dayton instead. We promised ourselves that we will return to Maine next year to complete our trip and see more of this beautiful part of our country.
